Senior Accountant
General Description:
Reports to: Controller
The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for assisting and supporting the Controller in various functions, including the financial operating cycle, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, operating expense reconciliations, budgeting/forecasting and reporting requirements.
Core Responsibilities:
- Part of the Payable Process to review/approve invoices, utility bills, taxes, debt payments
- Oversee all rent, additional rent and other property income-Cash/Accrual basis accounting
- Develop and maintain General Ledger for each property assigned
- Generate and understand Financial Statements as needed
- Reviewing Budget to Actual and having an understanding/explanation of variances
- Invoice and track all management fees, construction fees and consulting fees
- Review vendor contracts & ensure invoices are compliant with contracts
- Perform bank account reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
- Calculate CAM and perform CAM annual and mid-year reconciliations
- Bank Compliance Reporting Quarterly/Annually
- Assist in month-end close and year-end close
- Work with building managers to resolve accounting disputes with tenants
- Oversee maintenance of tenant rent rolls and monitor rent escalations
- Assist in the development of building budgets & management company forecasts
- Track banking activity and monitor account balances
- Prepare and send Form 1099s to vendors at year end as appropriate
- Provide Trial Balances, Cash Flow projections and Budget v. Actual reports, as requested
- Assist in meeting ownership and/or investor reporting requirements
- Well versed with reviewing/interpreting leases and documenting key lease terms
- Involved with Job Costing functions tracking Capital Projects to completion
- Involved with year-end tax reporting process compiling reports/information to tax team
- Tracking/managing the Credit Card process
- Part of acquisition/disposition onboarding/offboarding assets
- Perform other financial duties as requested
Requirements:
The Senior Accountant is required to have a minimum of (3) years prior experience in accounting, bookkeeping and/or finance. Experience and understanding of real estate is strongly preferred. A degree from a four year university is required. Proficiency with YARDI and/or comparable property management software programs is also required. Outstanding organization and attention to detail, along with excellent verbal and quantitative skills are a must.
